Hughes Sail Boats

The company that produces Hughes sail boats, Hughes Boat Works, was founded in Willowdale, Ontario, Canada in 1963 by brothers Howard and Peter Hughes. Originally, the company produced 8'-16' dinghies. Hughes Boat Works was the largest manufacturer of sailboats in Canada, until it was purchased by US Steel in 1969 and became Northstar Yachts, Ltd. in 1971.

Hughes Sail Boats

In 1965, Hughes began producing the H24, H27, and H38, their first racing boats. In 1967, Hughes Boat Works became a legal corporation with the purpose of manufacturing pleasure boats.

Designed by Howard Hughes, the H22, H25, and H29 were generated in 1968. When Hughes was purchased by US Steel, the Hughes brothers continued to contribute ideas, until the company's name was changed in 1971. Northstar went on to build Hughes' boats, but many owners believe that quality suffered somewhat as a result of the transition.

Sparkman and Stephens

Many of the Hughes boats were designed or co-designed by Sparkman and Stephens. Since 1929, Sparkman and Stevens has been world reknowned for its design of admirable sailing and racing yachts.

Sparkman and Stephens has over 2600 designs in pleasure, commercial and military crafts. Sailing yachts remain the most well known branch of their empire. Many of these have been featured winners in the America's Cup, Fastnet and Sydney to Hobart races.

Howard Hughes, President

Howard Hughes prided himself on the quality and craftsmanship of all the models of Hughes sail boats building with the principles of the "no compromise 'Proper Yacht Method'". The Hughes sail boats were built to last throughout the ages with top of the line materials of the highest quality.

All of the Hughes boats were built to be cutting edge in style and sophistication and well as speed and luxury. The phrase "interiors are our 'thing'", coined by Howard Hughes, was used to describe the comfort and workability of the Hughes interior. For Howard Hughes, the importance of safety onboard one of his vessels was not something to put a price tag on, and he did not believe in passing on the price of those "little extras" to the customer.

After selling the company in 1969, Howard Hughes bought back the then named Northstar Yachts, Ltd. in 1977 and renamed it Hughes Boat Works, Inc. Once again, in 1980, Hughes sold the company, this time to Aura Yachts. He would decide for the final time in 1986 to reclaim ownership of his beloved enterprise.

Hughes Boat Works, Today

Unfortunately, the legacy of Hughes Boat Works is not one that is actively contributed to today with new Hughes Boat Works ideas. In Orangeville, Ontario, 1991, what would be the present day Hughes factory was destroyed by a devastating fire. Since then, Hughes Boat Works has been out of production.

The ruination of the Hughes factory does not mean, however, that a Hughes sail boat is impossible to come by. Because of Mr. Howard Hughes' penchant for thoroughly designed, almost indestructible sailboats, numerous models can currently be seen sailing waters the world over.

Boat Anchoring: Proven Strategies And Tactics For Safety

There are many factors to consider before you choose and deploy your ground tackle. Some of those considerations are outlined in this article. I have outlined this into phases so simplicity.

Phase 1- General Anchoring Terms To Know:

Ground Tackle: The general term applied to anchoring a boat (vessel)

Rode: Anchor line and Chain

Scope: Length of the anchor rode measured in units of water depth (8:1 ratio respectively) recommended

Shackle: A "U" shaped connector with a pin or bolt across the open end

Bitter End: The last part of the line

Have you noticed how many different styles of anchors there are? This can be especially confusing for the new boater. Some of the styles available are: Fluke, Grapnel, Mushroom, Plow and Navy. Newer anchors may be known by the name of the manufacturers such as Danforth or Fortress.

There are so many variables and requirements for adequate ground tackle, it's impossible to really establish a firm set of rules. Factors to consider are the type and weight of the vessel, characteristics of the ocean bottom found locally, the average depth of water in the anchorage area and the strength of the normal prevailing winds and currents. Unless ground tackle can be depended upon to hold securely even while the boat is unattended, it is not adequate. The bottom line is that there are many variables.

Anchoring Know-How Phase 2:

With knowledge of the general terms and anchor styles, we have decided on the anchor needed for our particular circumstance. Next is figuring out what the diameter and length our line should be before we attach it to the chain and anchor. Most of us will utilize 3/8" or ½" line. We'll use 3/8" line for boats up to about 4,000 pounds and half-inch line for boats up to about 7,000 pounds.

Larger diameter line will be needed for heavier boats. We'll need a length of line that will allow us to have a scope of at least 8:1 ratio in the depth of water we usually anchor. Most of us will have a minimum of 100' - 200' of line for our main bow anchor. I recommend having a second, smaller anchor onboard too. Use it as a stern anchor or lunch hook.

Deploying two anchors will allow you to anchor at the beach in close proximity of other boats without your boat swinging into your neighbors' boat. Having the second anchor allows you to deploy a smaller more manageable anchor while stopping for a quick bite to eat. This anchor should also have the same diameter line and chain as the main anchor with at least 100 feet of line.

Next, we determine the diameter and length of chain for the anchor. The size and weight of your craft will be factors in this calculation of the chain between the anchor and the line. Why do we need chain? The chain acts as a dead weight which assists in setting the anchor or digging into the bottom. There are different grades of chain, just to confuse us I think. Being budget minded, I use the Hot Dipped Galvanized type as most of my boating is in salt water.

We need adequate strength in our chain; ¼ inch chain has an approximate breaking strength of 5,000 lbs. while 5/16 inch chain has a breaking strength of about 7,600 lbs. You guessed it, the thicker the chain, the stronger it is. I use six feet of 5/16' chain with my anchors on my 4,300 lb boat.

Now we need to either splice or have spliced an eye with a Thimble in one end of our line. Through the Thimble we need to attach the chain by installing a Shackle and then on the other end of the chain we use another Shackle to attach the anchor.

Don't forget to insert a length of stainless steel wire through the head of the Shackle pin and around the shaft twisting its ends together. This prevents the Shackle pin from backing out over time. It is now time to do a back splice on the other end of the line to prevent it from unraveling/fraying. Of course, you can check out the pre-spliced Anchor/Chain Rode packages at your local marine store to save yourself time and work.

Anchoring Know-How Phase 3:

I recall a nice summer afternoon at a local beach. My friend and I were about 17 and just pulling up to the beach in my 16 foot Starcraft Aluminum boat. Bert was at the bow ready to deploy the anchor and I was at the helm. I looked to the stern to check the engine for a split second and when I looked forward, I observed Bert sitting in about two feet of water with the anchor in one hand looking baffled.

We had anchored that boat successfully many times in the past. This time however, he forgot the number one rule, keep feet clear of the line. He had become entangled in the line and as he threw the anchor overboard, Bert went out with it! This was good for a laugh as he was not hurt. It is best to lower the anchor, not throw it.

Another experience was on the other side of the same beach. With a raft of six boats spending the weekend, I questioned the size of the anchor my friend had deployed. Six boats rafted together is a lot of tonnage and in an area which normally has a nine foot tide and a 4-6 knot current. I had recommended deploying a stern anchor in conjunction with the bow anchor. This I knew would prevent the rafting boats from swinging during the tide change.

My suggestion was rebuffed as over-kill and I was advised that this is the way they did things for years without a problem. Early the next morning we all awoke to a terrific thud. We were nearly thrown out of our bunks. You guessed it; the anchor lifted during the tide change and as the boat swung it lifted the anchor which didn't reset itself.

We drifted until the out-drive on my boat caught the stern anchor-line of another raft of boats which swung us into that raft. This did stop us from going a bit further though, which would have been smack into a raft of Bertrams! Our insurance companies would not have been pleased. I don't know how, but there were no injuries or damage, just one more lesson learned.

Bonus Tip: Deploy two anchors when over-nighting in tidal waters.

Summary of Key Points:

o Practice your anchoring skills in areas of less congestion when possible

o Keep your lines neat and coiled

o Lower the anchor carefully, do not throw it

o KEEP feet away from the anchor line

o Tie off the bitter end to prevent anchor & rode from going overboard

o Replace worn rode

No Boat, No Car, No Truck, No Problem - You Can Still Catch Big Fish As a Deprived Angler, LOL!

Just because you live in the city or don't have a boat or car, it doesn't mean you can't catch giant fish. Trust me, I grew up in the concrete where it seemed impossible to dream of any decent fishing experiences.

In reality, though, there are great fishing opportunities in Toronto and its surrounding area's. The TTC, GO Train and Ferry boats are all options for getting out to the shore. Or if you want to get out in a boat you can always rent one.

Some good places to look for big fish from shore are the Toronto Islands, Ashbridges Bay, Credit River, Rouge River, Leslie Street Spit, Rideau River, Niagara River, Bay Of Quinte, Ganaraska River and the list goes on.

As for boat rental's Rice Lake and most of the Kawartha's have very affordable rental boats. If you decide to rent a boat here are some tips on how to fish from a rental with no trolling motor and no fishfinder. When you are fishing from a rental it is hard to cover any amount of productive water and it is very difficult to to stay in productive water for long periods of time. However here are few tricks that I have learned from my old school days as an avid "rental boat angler". When bass fishing from a rental the first thing you can do is to drive around looking for visible isolated cover such as duck blinds, docks, trees, small patches of slop and cane islands. Some of the biggest bass love to dominate limited or rare isolated structure. This stuff is very visible to the naked eye and can be easily found from a rental boat. When approaching these structures make sure to cut you engine out way before you get too close to the cover or you will spook the "Lion" in his den, lol! Paddle your way into casting range and make sure you don't bang the boat with paddle because there is nothing worse than that when it comes to spooking fish!!!! This technique is great on calm days because you can control the boat well with a paddle. If it is windy anchoring away from the cover is the deal. The wind can be your friend when anchoring, you can slowly let rope out and creep up on cover and tie off when you are in perfect casting position.

If you decide not to fish these isolated structures giant weed flats can be your next best friend. For this you will need markers, polarized glasses and drift socks. When I find a weed flat in the middle of a bay for example I like to start out by fishing it in strips. I then let the wind blow me down the top of the flat to the bottom and for the first few runs over the flat. A spinnerbait, crankbait or lipless crankbait is hard to beat when staring on a flat. You can burn these baits through vast amounts of water and pick up quick active bites, this will help give you an idea of where the fish maybe holding on a big flat. As soon as you get a bite on these horizontal style baits roughly mark the spot with your eye and drive over to it and throw a marker on it. Now you can fish around the area slowly with plastic worm, jigs, tube and any other type of vertical style bait. I will then use a drift sock from my reference point (marker) in this situation so I can fish around potential fish holding water. Here I will use vertical baits fished slowly and methodically. Fishing slower like this can help you connect with the biggest fish on the flat. Not all the fish on a flat will hit fast moving horizontal baits, this is why its important to slow down once you have found potentail fish holding areas. Sometimes you will find a "money spot" where fish are just bunched up like crazy, this is when you would anchor and milk the spot for all that it is worth. Pay attention to what productive spots on a weed flat look like, sometimes these sweet spots have mixed types of weed there or the weeds are a fresher green colour or may have rock mixed in the area. This is important to pay attention to because you can duplicate this in other areas.

As for good shore fishing, do your research on different websites and talk to as many angler as possible to find out where the bite has been hot from shore. Or just bring a variety of baits to the nearest body of water to your home and start casting away, you may be surpised to find out the size of the beasts that live in your backyard!

Keep these few things in mind the next time you feel like a "deprived angler" and I guarantee it will help you catch a few more fish.

And remember...

Get fish or die tryin'!

5 Simple Steps To Teach Kids Fishing

My friends are always asking me what the secret behind my fishing skill is. You know there is no simple answer because now it's almost my habit. I started joining my father for fishing since I was 4 years old. My dad taught me how to start fishing and what to do to get fish hooked, so to speak. Start early might be the biggest secret for my excellent skill in fishing.

I found that the main problem to most of my friends that they don't even know the basics of fishing. And, this is because their father didn't initiate their training on how to fish when they were young. I noticed my dad did something different while teaching us fishing that made the difference.

I'm sharing you few tips to teach your kid fishing.

1. You should get kids in a fishing boat at a very young age. Pay attention to your kid's safety and answer their questions. Remember you are here to teach fishing to your kids. So, encourage them.

2. Take your kid to a place where they can catch many fishes easily. You should select a place where your kid can get couple of fishes within 10 to 12 minutes because small child's patience is very short. Remember quality does not matter for your kid but quantities do matter for young angler.

3. Cheer your kids for every fish they catch. Take picture, video of them in action and make a big deal out of it. Teach him how to clean the fish with a table knife. Once your kid sees the connection from catching to cleaning to cooking, he will be hooked with fishing. Kid need to feel the excitement of fishing.

4. Once your kid is familiar with fishing, take him with you while you go for fishing. Teach him the importance of patience in fishing. Involve them in cleaning and cutting of fishes.

5. Fishing in summer is very tough. You should not take your kid for fishing in blistering summer when there is no cloud, wind and you can't even touch the fiber glass cover because its to hot. Fishing on summer days, really stretched the "fun" part of fishing, and it certainly not the time to have any young children with you. Hence, you should start to teach fishing when the environment is cool and comfortable and gradually expose them in more challenging environment like hot summer or very cold weather.

6. Once your child is familiar with fishing, present him "his own" rod and reel, tackle box, and fishing hat.

You should teach your kids on how to fish. Your kids will learn their lesson on fishing by just copying you so take them with you whenever and wherever possible.

Boat Seats - Get Then Cheap, Discounted Or Even Free

Few things are as pleasant as a trip on a boat with people that you like, whether it's a fishing trip, a leisure voyage out to the sea, or a weekend down a river. Even if it's your profession to be on a boat, there is something about being on the water that just makes it special.

It could be on a vessel equipped for fishing, on a powerful yacht or on a leisurely freshwater pontoon; in any case it is a fantastic pastime that pleases young and old.

Boat seats are a fundamental part of any of these vessels, and you will find that any trip will turn onto a nightmare if the seating isn't comfortable. And this isn't just a passing inconvenience, but a serious issue of crew fatigue and safety.

Any boating hobbyist or professional will surely appreciate that if an exchange of boat seats is necessary, it is better to spend less than the full price on them.

Buying used boat seats is one of the most obvious solutions - you may be able to get very good prices by looking at the local classifieds, or at sale notices posted at your local marina. And if you have any friends that share your passion for boating, you may be able to buy seats from them if they are about to get new ones. Granted, used boat seats may need a bit of repair, but it will be worth it in the long term

If you have a lot of acquaintances who are into boating, you could approach a retailer for a bulk discount. Even if the boat seats you are looking for are not of the same type, you can get a hefty reduction even if you are buying different models.

Even if you are buying new by yourself, ask the shop if they have any special offers on boat seats. Often these are not advertised prominently, so you will need to ask. Sometimes discounts will materialize just because you asked for it, so never neglect this step!

Check aftermarket shops too. These are retailers specializing in end-of-the-line products, which are usually much cheaper than current ones. The next aftermarket shop may be out of the way so inquire about availability of boat seats over the phone in advance. It may well be worth the call!

Using the Internet is, of course, a great way to find cheaper boat seats, not only for research purposes like you are doing right now, but also to compare prices of different online retailers.

Another very cheap source of boat seats are auctions, whether online on sites such as eBay or off-line. Check the local and trade papers to fund out if any auctions are being held in the local area.

13 Tips For Selling Your Used Boat

When selling a boat you need to be aware of special requirements needed to effectively sell your boat. Here are 13 tips that I have found work to assure that the transaction goes smoothly for you.

Reach out and touch someone - No one expects you to take out an ad on the Super Bowl to sell your boat, but you do need to spend money if you intend to sell your boat. Determine what you can afford to spend to market your boat and commit to an effective marketing program. Use a combination of the Internet, local shoppers and boat classifieds listings in local papers.

Mr. Clean - A clean boat is much closer to sold than a dirty one. It's amazing how much money some boaters will spend to market their boat then they don't even clean it up properly. If your not willing to do it right, pay a professional detailer a few hundred to clean it up right.

Whisper Sweet Nothings - Many boaters over look those little things that make a used boat appealing to a used boat buyer. Remember that most new boats don't come with all the frills. These little things can go far in securing a sale for your used boat. Keep in mind that mentioning that you include a radar, fish finder, downriggers etc. often spur a new boat buyer to think twice about the new vs. used market.

One Ringy Dingy, Two Ringy Dingy - Have you ever called a seller and found that they weren't home or they had an answering machine. If you are serious about selling your boat, answer the phone. If you're not going to be home, then forward your calls to a cell phone. Don't have a cell phone ... get one! If you don't answer the phone when the prospect is ready to buy, you just wasted a whole lot of money for nothing...

the Price is Right - More boaters make mistakes in pricing their boat too high for the market. Do a search on the internet for similar boats and be sure yours has some advantage over the others. It may be price, or it may be features. If it isn't one or the other then you're keeping your boat for another year!

Fun, Fun, Fun - When the customer comes out to see the boat, make the experience fun. Have a poster on board with photos of your fun experiences on the boat. People buy based on emotion, so give it to them. If you are selling a fishing boat, don't take all the equipment off the boat, have the rods in the rod holders, have photos of all the trophy fish you caught out for them to see and discuss. Share your experiences with your customer.

Say Cheese - If you don't show photos on the internet of your boat, don't bother. Very few people will buy a boat without seeing photos first. Would you look for a boat with just text? Take four photos and have them included in your listing. Photos should be exterior side view, rear shot, helm and interior.

That's my line,, and I'm stickin to it - If your boat has had repairs, list them. Every used boat has seen it's share of dings and dents. Ignoring these will only create suspicion amongst your potential buyers. By listing your repairs, you avoid potential blunders later when a survey brings the problem to surface.

Cool hand Luke - If you don't have the stomach for people climbing all over your boat, only to criticize the condition or worse yet say nothing, then you need a Boat Broker. Brokers don't have emotional attachments, and they have more available time to meet with potential clients than you do. So if you don't have the stomach for it, hand it off to a cooler hand.

Don't be an Average Joe - Every other seller of used boat all say the same thing. My boat has a heater, fish finder, radar, etc. Use words to describe why these things are important. Remember many used boat buyers are inexperienced boaters and many are first time buyers who don't understand what these features do. Use words like "Eagle II fish finders identifies the depth of each fish and comes with temperature gauge and speed control allowing you to control your lure depth and speed" or "Heater provides three minute warm up of interior cabin for early morning or late fall cruising."

A Three Hour Tour - If your boat is in the water at the time you are selling, offer to take the potential buyer for a ride. State this in your ad and entice them to come out for a ride. Nothing works better to get the customer emotionally involved with your boat than a free ride.

And the Survey Says... - If you've owned your boat for more than 5 years, it is strongly suggested that you have a survey done on the boat before you list it. A survey can point out potential road blocks in the sale of your boat. This is especially true for Yacht and High Performance boats. Lets say you spend $500-$1000 to market your boat only to find out that a potential buy could not get financing because your boat have a problem due to their survey. Not only have you lost your advertising investment, but now you need to make the repairs. Doing a survey first can bring potential problems to the surface.

As The World Turns - Every boater who places an ad thinks that it will sell quickly. The reality is that boats take about 3 months to find a partner. That is provided the right person sees the boat. Be patient and most of all, be sure that when you get that opportunity to show your boat you haven't misplaced all the other tips we shared with you.

So You Want to Become a Yacht Broker

Frequently I have clients or friends say to me, "You must have lots of fun being a Yacht Broker; being on boats all day, you're on holiday all day long". Yes, I do enjoy it but it is a lot of work if you want to be productive. Let me explain what it takes to make it work. If you think you have what it takes, give me a call.

The difficult part.

For starters, Florida Yacht Brokers have worked as sales people a full 2 years, before a full Broker position can be achieved. Each state is different. As a Broker you might own the company or work for a parent company. As an owner/Broker as I do with Paradise Yachts, operation of a yacht sales business enterprise includes marketing, sales, marketing, accounting, banking, web site design and building, search engine optimization, tax collecting, and bottle washing. So I have to allocate my time based upon what needs to keep the business operating. But for the role of this article, we'll just be assuming you will want to become a yacht sales person.

To begin, the principal matter is you have to like yachts; no, you have to live yachts and boating. But there is more. You have to know boats and yachts like the skin of your chin; it's got to be your life. You have to be able to discuss boats in detail; your customers will certainly be able to do so.

Do you currently own a boat? Have you previously owned a boat? What is your experience operating a yacht? Your customers will want to talk about how things function while underway, how to dock a twin screw boat, and how things aboard operate. Can you walk the talk? Have you ever done it? Can you direct your customers based upon experience?

What's your personality? Are you out going and able to reach out to clients? The majority of the people you meet will be total strangers.

Do you view yourself a self-starter? Are you willing to make it happen; if you don't go to work, no one will be there to remind you?

Do you possess a basic sales perspective? Are you a customer service type of person?

Can you live without a paycheck for 1, 2, 3 months? It does and will happen. Yacht Brokers only get paid when we sale a yacht. You must have good money management skills.

Are you willing to work 7 days a week, every day including holidays if required? I work every day, usually 12 hour days. Clients look at yachts everyday and you must be willing to take the telephone call or respond to the e-mail at any time.

Are you up on computers? Are you comfortable on a website? You'll need to possess a powerful computer, printer, and scanner and have internet capability to upload yacht listings online.

Are you an accomplished photographer? Can you use a digital camera and use photographic software. You will needat least a 8 mega pixel digital photographic camera. They are not cheap!

Can you pull through a full background investigation? If you want to work in Florida, it's needed to get a license. If you work in another State, you will not be able to enter the State of Florida working as a yacht sales person.

Are you prepared to shell out $600.00 every 2 years for the exclusive right of carrying that license?

Do you have a cell phone, Blackberry or iPhone; you can't live without them.

Can you survive the unbearable hot sun or endure pouring rain to show yachts to customers?

Can you deal with with irritating clients that often demand more than you wish to give?

The easy part

Do you wish to have an endless income? Yes, the money you make is up to you.

Do you like having fun? Yes, it's a lot of fun seeing a new, happy boat owner. And yes, we do get to have our fair share of boat rides.

Do you like meeting many new acquaintances? Every stranger I meet is just a friend I haven't yet made.

Do you like being your own boss? In the boat business, you get to call the shots.

Choosing the Best Saltwater and Freshwater Fishing Rods, Reels, Rod-n-Reel Combos and Accessories

There are many reasons why anglers choose to purchase their fishing gear online and I have been doing so for many years. Continued measures to protect online transactions and customer privacy lead me to believe that I will continue to do so. Over the years, I have assembled my ideal rod & reel combos for both freshwater and saltwater fishing at huge discounts, both new and used.

It would have been very time consuming and expensive to research products, pricing, brand reputation and more without the internet. Like so many others, my local bait and tackle shop carried a very limited selection of gear that was usually catered to the type of fishing that is done in the immediate vicinity, whether for trout, bass or a very small selection of saltwater tackle. My only other option used to be going to the big chain-store that had salesmen that knew less than I did about the products, but they were very friendly and knowledgeable in assisting me purchase my fishing poles and other gear at full retail price. I thought they were called fishing rods and you call that a huge selection?

So, naturally I gravitated to shopping on the internet and a few big e-commerce sites like Ebay® and Amazon®. I could easily find flawlessly functioning fishing reels, unbreakable fishing rods, colorful jigs & lures without teeth marks, scratches or chipped paint, fishing accessories like line winders, strippers, reel spools and the list goes on at truly discounted prices. Through 20 years of fishing, I have taught myself how to properly maintain my gear and I would suggest everyone take the time to do so. There is so much fishing gear on sites like these that just need a little T.L.C. and a clean rinsing, some grease and oil, that will fish as if they were brand new. High quality rods and reels from name brand manufacturers are so strong and corrosion-resistant that someone would really have to neglect a product for it not to function after a little cleaning. I could practically buy a reel, clean it up and fish with it for several years and probably sell it for very close to what I paid.

Take advantage and save money when purchasing fishing tackle by learning how to maintain your fishing gear and equipment. To start, tighten your reel drags as tight as possible and then spray your fishing reels with freshwater after every fishing trip. Do not run water over them, as this may push salt or unwanted dirt into the reel. Use a spray bottle and lightly spray with a mist over the entire reel. Wipe clean the excess water and remember to loosen the drags, or else they may stick. This should be done for both your freshwater and saltwater gear. Look for more articles on breaking down your fishing reels and customizing both spinning and conventional fishing reels.

mewithoutYou - The Fox, The Crow, And The Cookie

All Rights Reserved to Tooth & Nail Records Lyrics: Through mostly vacant streets, A baker form the out-skirts of his town, Earned his living pedaling sweets from a ragged cart he dragged around. The clever fox crept close behind, Kept an ever watchful eye, For a chance to steal a ginger spice cake, Or a poison berry pie. Looking down was the hungry crow: When the time is right, I'll strike, And condescend to the earth below And take whichever treat I'd like. The moment the baker turned around To shoo the fox off from his cart, The crow swooped down, And snatched a short bread cookie and a German chocolate tart. Using most unfriendly words, That the village children had not yet heard, The baker shouted threats by ? to curse the crafty bird. You rotten wooden mixing spoon, Why you midnight winged raccoon, You better bring those pastries back you no good bird-black macaroon. The fox approached the tree Where the bird was perched, delighted in his nest. Brother Crow, don't you remember me? It's your old friend Fox with a humble request. If you could share just a modest piece, Seeing as I distracted that awful man. This failed to persuade the crow, And even so, The fox rethought his plan. Then if your lovely song would grace my ears, Or to even to hear you speak, Would ease my pains and fears! The crow looked down, with a candy in his beak. Your poems of wisdoms, if I could crow What a paradise they bring! This flattery pleased the proud bird so, He opened his mouth and began ...

Sailboat Upkeep - Supplies and a Cleaning Schedule

There is nothing quite as disappointing as finding rust eating a sailboat up, or grime stuck to the decks and hull. Maintaining a sailboat assures that every time it is taken out, it will perform to the best of its ability and effectively. Keeping a sailboat in good condition is not difficult at all. There are some key tools and methods involved in maintenance.

First off the sailboat itself needs to be well protected against the elements. The boat needs to be washed with soap, with careful attention to not using bleach products unless absolutely necessary. The hull of the boat needs to be adequately recoated from time to time. This will not only protect the hull from rust and other effects but create a smoother surface against the water. The deck could use a fresh coat of varnish as well once in a while. Boat paint and varnish can serve a sailor very well with general upkeep of a sailboat.

Sailboats should be routinely inspected from bow to stern. Glancing carefully along the sailboat can reveal small imperfections and cracks which could grow to be a bigger problem if not addressed early. Assessing and acting on these cracks can help a sailor save time and money on more costly repairs down the line. For small cracks, a liquid sealant which does not shrink when cured is best. Such boat calking and adhesives are durable and cost efficient to use.

Cleaning the sailboat every so often can help prevent long term problems from building up and snowballing. Protect the sailboat now and often, and then cleaning will not be as difficult as if the sailboat was only cleaned once in awhile. Dedicating time to each aspect to address, such as the deck for instance, can help create an effective schedule for routine boat maintenance. Be sure to be stocked up boat cleaning supplies and get down to business.

Many amateur and even experienced sailors fall victim each year to costly repairs and maintenance because they did not establish a schedule for cost effective maintenance themselves and stick to it. Taking care of a sailboat does not have to cost an arm and a leg if you know what to do. Time management and a cleaning schedule can help assure that a sailboat will see many more sunsets without breaking the bank.

10 Sexy Getaway Travel Destinations

Trying to find some time to relax is a task in itself. But when you do find time, you might want to make sure that you will get the most of out it. And what better way to get your vacation time rolling than sharing it with the your loved one (or your friends) and hitting the sexiest spots on the planet. Here are 10 sexy getaway travel destinations you may want to include in your next itinerary.

1. Caye Caulker, Belize. C'mon, you can't really say "sexy" without thinking of Belize out in the Caribbean. This tiny island is wonderfully pristine and calls to people who prefer to spend their days in the tiniest bikinis. But if music is your thing, the Caye Caulker can certainly provide you all the authentic reggae music you can handle. Yeah, man!

2. Kauai, Hawaii. If you are looking for some fun with a more primal vibe, Kauai is definitely the place to go. Visitors claim that the unspoiled views and the very quiet nights can trigger passion like no other place can. This is a definite spot to sink into if you are sharing the long nights with someone you love.

3. Ischia, Italy. Okay, so maybe hitting the beach and drowning under all that sun does not sound remotely sexy to you. You need someplace quiet and a million miles from the hustle and bustle of the nearest city. Although it is just 20 miles from the city of Naples, Ischia offers spas that allow you to lie quietly into the natural warm springs in the area where you can enjoy the reclusive atmosphere at your leisure. If you really want to get away from it all, there are boats you can rent for the rest of your stay. You can wax prose and poetry over the waves for all you care.

4. Krabi, Thailand. Admittedly, you won't find a lot of people in different modes of undress here. But if you find adventure trekking and exploration sexy, then Krabi is just the place for you. Crystal clear waters make snorkeling a blast, but you might also want to spend a lot of your vacation time exploring the caves and going on nature hikes.

5. Langkawi, Malaysia. If you find exoticism and mystery sexy, then you might want to head on out to Asia and settle beautifully in Langkawi. Aside from all the shrines, temples and architectural treasures to visit, there are also secret caves, unique rock formations and spectacular waterfalls to explore. Plus, you can spend a lot of time just basking on the island's white beaches which are draped with crystal clear azure waters.

6. Mykonos, Greece. Partying with friends can certainly turn into a whole new meaning if you hit the beaches of Mykonos. Hard bodies and topless ladies frolic there like it was the norm, and but you can also easily move from the sands to the club scenes in a heartbeat. Besides, what's sexier than authentic Greek food?

7. Oahu, Hawaii. If you are still reminiscing about the good old Hawaii 5-0 days, then you might was as well hit the sands of Oahu. The exotic locale is enough to get you up and going in the daytime, but nights here can be extremely entertaining as well. High flipping dark waves set the background for bonfires and drinks all around. If you are not above pulling one all-nighter after another, then Oahu is definitely the way to go.

8. Paris, France. Aside from being considered as the most romantic city in the world, Paris can also be quite a sexy spot to be in especially if you are sharing a romantic getaway with someone you love. The best places to hit are the night clubs. But we bet that you would not mind checking out their gourmet restaurants and favorite tourist attractions too.

9. Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. If you want to street party with some of the most gorgeous people on the planet, then you might want to book your vacation time during the height of the city's Carnival festivities. Aside from free flowing beer all around, this is the place to let loose and gyrate to the music.

10. Vieques, Puerto Rico. If you are seeking more quiet dunes, then you do not have to go very far. Vieques has an arsenal of clean and almost uninhabited beaches. But you might want to drop by the Mosquito Bay area too in case you want to watch bioluminescent sea life cruising the waves at night fall.

The Luxurious Benefits of a Boat Club

Having your own boat, be it a sailboat, a yacht or any sort of watercraft, is a dream that most of us want to have. It certainly is very relaxing to relish your boat and sail away on one thing that you can call your own. Throughout the years, though, because the wealth of the majority of the individuals increased, so did the prices and technicalities of boats. You see, boats are thought of luxury possessions. This stuff is meant purely for the wealthy. The trade has failed to understand that a most of middle class people still want to possess their own boats. Luckily, everything is changed now. Owning a boat these days remains very expensive. Since the possession for boats has increased, new avenues for sailing have emerged. This is where boat clubs come into the picture.

Boatclubs are essentially what they are. They are clubs for people who intend to try and do some sailing or for individuals who already have boats and would really like to relish the concierge advantages of owning the boat. Boatclubs are very great as a result of a new method for like-minded individuals to get together. Likewise, it's also a approach to get pleasure from your hobby and hopefully get to own your own someday. There is one sure connotation with boatclubs that tend to scare a most of people, though. Some individuals assume that clubs are available for individuals who own boats only. Should that be the case, clubs won't actually survive for a long time because most people do not own boats. The reality of the matter is, clubs are accessible for everyone. All you need to have is the fervor for boats. If you're not a owner, you can still relish all the wonderful benefits of getting a boat by being a member of the club.

As a member of the club, you will get to have an ownership in a certain boat. If you intend to use the boat, you will get to use it by scheduling a date on when you'll be sailing. You may be thinking that this is often very proscribing and limiting. You shouldn't be worried at all at the scheduling of the boats because you can very much schedule at the last minute. With this concept, you get to save cash, you get to enjoy your hobby, and you get to meet other people who share the identical interest.

Buying Cheap Boat Seats

Few things are as pleasant as a trip on the boat with people you like to travel with on a voyage to sea or a weekend down a river. By being in water we can enjoy even we are in profession. Boat seats are a fundamental part in making a travel on the sea with boats. The travel would become a bore if the seats are not comfortable. The owner of those boats will surely appreciate if there is an exchange of seats available for another one. He will think of spending less money instead of the full one.

Buying cheap seats is one of the important solutions. We may be able to get good prices on those local seats but not high reliability. Granted cheap boat seats may need a bit of repair and will be worth in the long term. Even if you have a lot of persons who are eager in purchasing those seats, you can make an introduction to the retailer for bulk discount. Even you are not satisfied with models you seen you can also get discounts, even if you buy different models.

Even if you are new to buy the seats you must ask the shopkeeper about the special offers on those cheap boat seats. Using the internet is of course a great way to find cheaper boat seats, not only now but also for the cheaper boats. Another cheap source of boat seats are auctions whether on-line search on any others.

Cheap boating seats may be classified into different types as follows. Classic back to back seats, Attwood seats, leather back to back seats, bucket seats, fishing seats, pontoon seats, jump seats and so on. Classic boating seats are made up of cushion type material constructed with plastic frames. This will store features in the base. We have to simply lift the side if the seat to access the interior of the boat base.

Deluxe pontoon lounge seats are built with tough and good styling with many years of service. Some heavy duty element is used for folding and bending the seats to and fro. Pontoon seats are available in attracting colors like red, blue etc., durable lounge seats offers a convenient storage compartment under the seat cushion. Some precautions are to be kept in mind for these seats. We should not use this as free as the standing seat.

Cheap boat seats are the common one used in these days for making a journey. It is constructed with extra wide surface. The seat back of these fold-down back seats delivers more stability and less fatigue. These seats have one-year warranty for against breakage, cracking and warping. These seats can also be purchased on on-line shopping.

Why Choose a Fractional Sailing Program Or Boat Club Over Boat Ownership

Many of you would-be boat owners may want to consider a fractional sailing program, sometimes called a boat club or time share boat. These programs offer many benefits over traditional boat ownership. In this article we will try to summarize a few:

No equity in the boat - A frequent question for new fractional sailing program members is who owns the boat. Most established programs do not require members of the boat club to own an equity interest in the yacht. The big benefit here is pretty obvious: no equity, no liability. My dad always used to say it is not your assets, it is your liabilities.

No maintenance - Sails, running rigging, standing rigging, refrigeration, propane, fuel, gel coat, oil and oil filters, fuel filters, belts, lines, fenders, the list goes on and on. A boat owner's work is never done, from cleaning to changing zincs a good time share boating program will handle it all.

No winter storage/haul outs - Each year there is a great deal of annual maintenance items that must be taken care of on a well maintained boat. Live in a seasonal location? Each year your boat will need to be hauled, winterized, stored, commissioned, and launched; this type of annual service can easily run into the thousands of dollars. Even if you live in a year round location where the boat does not need to be stored chances are there you will have to worry about hurricane season, and still need to haul the boat annually to paint the bottom.

No long sales process - Ever heard the old adage "The two happiest days for a boater are the day they buy a boat and the day they sell it"? Well, there is a lot of truth to this, one of the main reasons being that used boats are difficult to sell, in fact the used boat market is currently in one of its biggest slumps ever die to the weak economy. With a fractional sailing company you do not have to worry about reselling your old boat.

Fractional sailing programs or boat clubs can offer significant financial, emotional and time saving benefits that traditional boat ownership simply can not provide.
